Thanks for the (advanced beginners/intermediate) ukulele course Lorraine. I found that it was just the right level. Actually you worked us harder than expected which was no bad thing. I got much from the course and would thoroughly recommend it.

It was an encouraging environment, as it was social and we covered a lot of ground.

It was good to learn in a group, it was very friendly and inclusive so it was a good way to learn.

I liked the speed of the course. I learnt 3 songs in the first lesson. The variety of songs was good, different styles kept it interesting. The class size was small so we all got to know each other.

Lorraine makes everything seem easy and possible. The absolute beginners course was fun, light hearted and a great variety of songs. It has got me started, which is exactly what I wanted!

Had such a good time. Lorraine is brilliant. Very patient, a really good laugh. So surprised at how much I've learned. I would definitely recommend this class. (Personal opinion is I would have paid much more)

Lorraine made it fun and I felt like I could play interesting and popular songs after one class. I feel encouraged enough to continue playing and I will definitely take the next course after I practice what I learned so far. Excellent course!!!!! (five exclamation points)

This [absolute beginners ukulele course] was great fun, no pressure but good guidance. Learned the technique after faffing on my own for months. Also good foundation to look up songs I like [outside of the course] and learn them. Want to do the advanced beginners course.

I hope my friends don't find out about the absolute beginners ukulele course - otherwise they will realise how easy it can be to play a few popular songs on the uke!

Lorraine really knows how to challenge her students and give them difficult tasks to improve themselves in a way that it is still a lot of fun - in a very playful way! She is very friendly and happy and knows how to motivate her students! I think that the skype lessons worked very well and I enjoyed them a lot.

With a little practice between lessons and plenty of support from Lorraine I was amazed how far I came during the course. I had never really attempted a musical instrument before so I was very sceptical and shy at first. We all learned at different speeds but Lorraine was so patient and attentive she made sure no one was ever left behind. The best moments were always when we played as a group and realised we weren’t half bad! Though we learned so much in a relatively short space of time the whole experience felt so informal and fun – not a chore at all! Strumming away on a pub balcony on a warm evening with a lovely group of people is the perfect way to chill out after work. You realise what a sociable instrument the ukulele can be.

I tried to teach myself and found it was much harder than I thought it would be. Within a couple of weeks with Learn to Uke I had improved loads and was really excited about learning more! I really enjoyed it so went on to do the Advanced beginners Course, which was just as good, and easier to deal with the more difficult content in a smaller group setting.

The beginner course was great because we really were able to play 3 songs by the end of the first lesson! Lorraine got us playing straight away without thinking too much about it. The intermediate course moved us away from rote learning and encouraged us to think more about the structure of chords. With a smattering of musical theory every lesson, we were soon able to go away and work out how to play pretty much any song we could find on the Internet! It was like suddenly being able to turn on the light instead of having to rely on a torch! Top notch.

After enjoying Lorraine's beginner's ukulele course, I really wanted to continue to learn with her so joined the advanced beginner's course shortly afterwards. The content of the Advanced Beginner's stepped up a gear so that you start to learn how to move up and down the fret board with standard chord shapes. I have much more confidence now about using different parts of the uke fretboard for the same chord. We learned some more advanced songs and strumming patterns and how to read tabs so we could pick out single notes. Practice between lessons is necessary but I didn't find it onerous. The smaller size of the class means that you are not playing on your own. You get to collectively make and then fix mistakes.

The Adult Beginners course was relaxed and non-intimidating from the start. Most of us had no prior experience with stringed instruments, but we were very quickly playing real songs that we knew and loved. It was a great introduction to the ukulele that gave us the basic skills to take away and build upon in our own time - I’d definitely recommend it, and am considering doing a further course with Learn To Uke & Uke’s Cool in the future.

It’s true! You can play songs by the end of the first lesson! I had so much fun on the beginners’ ukulele course. In just six weeks, I learnt loads of chords, and loads of songs to play. And with those chords I have learnt to play lots of other songs too. It was nice to meet new people and have a giggle. I thoroughly recommend Lorraine’s course. I plan to get further tuition from Lorraine, but in the meantime, she has given me the skills and knowledge to really get going. I can hardly put my ukulele down! Sign up now! You won’t regret it.

I found it really useful, and I’ve been practising regularly since, and now the course has finished I can see how much I learned. There were lots of little tips that were really really helpful (from placing your ukulele face down through to how to position your fingers and how to make smoother transitions from one chord to another). I didn’t exactly “enjoy” the course, because I was so far behind the rest of the class, and I couldn’t ever master anything new during the class itself, but I did learn a lot from it and I’ve really enjoyed playing my uke since – and that is solely because of the course. I was stuck and it moved me on. It was helpful being able to email you in between classes, and it was really helpful when you said that it didn’t matter if I couldn’t do it in class, as long as I kept practising whatever we’d learnt between classes.

Learning to uke with Lorraine is one of the most fun and rewarding things I have done in ages and ages. Within an hour we were all confidently strumming and singing along (some better than others!) and with every week we added new songs. The group format really works: I made a few friends as well as adding The Cure, The Troggs, Disney and (inevitably!) George Formby to my party trick repertoire. Lorraine is patient and explains everything really well and thoroughly. Even the shyest amongst us ended up coming out of our shells and playing uke with panache. I can't recommend her classes more.
