Our 4 week advanced beginners course follows on from our 4 week absolute beginners course. If you still need assistance with strumming and quick chord changing, please go to absolute beginners. For a little overlap in week 1, it’s worth it for the extra tips you’ll get to make you confident to move onto advanced beginners. If you know your ukulele chords in 1st position, without over-reliance on chord diagrams, then you’re ready for advanced beginners. We’ll unlock the fretboard with moveable chords, and learn a little about picking melodies. Sound good?
Advanced beginners is a little more technical than absolute beginners, so if you’re not sure, you should definitely join absolute beginners. If you’re confident with your ukulele, then please contact us to book an assessment lesson before booking your advanced beginners place.
If you are comfortable playing the main major, minor and 7th chords (please find a free chord chart here, or here if you’re left handed.) on your ukulele, are comfortable with multiple chord changes and feel confident to play most easy songs without always relying on chord boxes to remind you which is which chord, then you are ready for advanced beginners.
How to play moveable chords, how to pick a number of melody lines, and play different strumming patterns and rhythms with your ukulele. How to read tab notation. It is intended that you get to know your instrument a lot better, and play your ukulele using different voicings, or inversions of chords.
This course is more technical than the absolute beginners, in that, it doesn’t simply teach you to play songs, so there is more to for you to take in, and a little more homework, so please ensure that you have time to practice before committing to the course. If you have not been on one of our courses and are unsure, or if you find strumming baffles you, then definitely go for the absolute beginners ukulele course. It is worth a little repetition in week 1 for what you’ll get out of it in the following 3 weeks.
Yourself, your ukulele, a pen and a good sense of camaraderie.
In a pub in Holborn. You are allowed to drink (sensibly) this is an adult course, intended to be fun and social.
The course is £79.99 for the 4 week course.
The classes are structured so each follows on from the other. It is best that you can commit to the 4 lessons, though individual catch up sessions can be arranged if you need to miss a class.
Yes, you only get an overview in class. You will need to spend 15 minutes each day practising to get the most from this course, or three or four times per week for longer. Ukulele playing is very much about muscle memory, so it’s important that you commit to practising so that your muscles move when you want them to. You get the best when you do a little every day.
Please let us know if there’s a question or point that we’ve not covered. We’ll put it up here.
Now you have read this, please book your place! We look forward to teaching you.
