Suss The Strum Pattern | 6:30-8pm |
Play It By Ear (Work Out The Chords) | 8:30-10pm |
Tuesday 6 June | £15
Whether you’re a near beginner or you’ve been playing for years, Robin will show you some new tricks for your repertoire. If you’ve always wanted to know how to work out what chords are being played in a song or what the strumming pattern is, these two workshops will help you to do exactly that.
About Robin Brown:
Robin’s terribly modest, so you’ll need to watch the videos below to get an idea of his skill level. All he had to write about himself was:
“I’ve been playing guitar since age 11, and picked up the ukulele when I joined a ukulele society at university. What struck me about it was how much it lowered the barrier of entry for people who wouldn’t otherwise consider the joy of learning a musical instrument - both in terms of difficulty and (for hard up students especially) financially. I would love to help you learn a bit more about what lies beyond the basic ukulele experience of playing chords off a lead sheet - whether that’s how to go about picking up songs by ear, learning how the harmony in your favourite songs works, how to branch out into playing a bass along with your ukulele friends, or any other advanced topic you might wish to explore!”
Robin is a patient instructor and a skilled musician so these workshops will be an absolute treat.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
With a maximum of 25 people in a class, this group will enable you to work out what the strumming pattern is/what strum might be suitable and what chords are in a few songs, by listening and playing along. This class is a great way to develop your musicality, meet new people and have fun.
UPCOMING WORKSHOP:
Tuesday 6 June 2017 - Upstairs at The Horse and Stables, Westminster Bridge Road, SE1.
Please watch the following 2 videos, and bear in mind that it’s so difficult to achieve what Robin did that Jon Gomm shared his video on social media.

Luke – :
The class is very enjoyable despite the challenging topic. I’d like to think that I’m mostly technically-inclined person and I can handle anything that comes with a pattern. But music theory amazes me. Robin is well equipped with the creative mind in how to make learning music not only a few octaves easier but also a bit more enjoyable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this class to anyone. Suitable for any musical background especially those who likes to know why your neighbours at Uke Wednesday session know all the chords while you struggle to remember.
