Whether you’ve played at a few open mic nights or you like the idea of it but have yet to dip your toe in, this workshop will help you consider your performance and bring your A-game with Lord Hicks.
About Lord Hicks:
Lord Hicks is well-known on the cabaret circuit and always brings his inimitable pizzaz to the show. He will help you to deliver a confident and memorable performance.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
With a maximum of 20 people in a class, this group will enable you to really nail your song, whether you choose to bring a 5 minute song to perform and get feedback, or whether you want to watch on this occasion, Lord Hicks will see you through.
This class is a great way to develop your stagecraft, meet new people and have fun.

A brilliant workshop: not at all intimidating. Lord Hicks is an excellent tutor, and the group very supportive of the performances. Thoroughly enjoyable: among other things I learnt to give due consideration to the song, its story, its meaning, going beyond a mere play through. Then I can begin to “perform”! Highly recommended.

A Big Thank You to Lorraine and Lord Hicks for last nights class I thought it was excellent and Im so pleased I went. I dont have any open mic asspirations at the moment but a class like this is so rare I thought I would come along just in case.
The tips were very useful, even simple stuff like getting the mic in the right place and getting the music in the right place were so obvious they are easily overlooked. At Uke open nights Lorraine often takes care of that sort of thing but at other places it may not be so well organised.
Lord Hicks tips to each performer were good and I thought everybody performed their song better after taking note of his comments. There are a lot of aspects of playing that can take a lot of practice perhaps weeks or years to master. Last night people performed better after a few minutes help!! Its also worth noting that his tips were relative to the personality of the performer not the way he may perform the same song.
The thing that only occurred to be once we started was that its a big step from playing in your bedroom to a public stage and for a lot of people (Im in that group) its too big a step. A class like this, in addition to all the tips and guidance is a sort of halfway stage, you get stage experience and a supportive audience so when you make your first public show you already have one successful performance under your belt.
For any potential open mic performers its daft not to go.

The perfect introduction to live performance, in a safe and supportive environment. Lorraine & Lord Hicks were the perfect host and tutor, and for someone who was way out of his comfort zone, i felt relaxed enough to actually do this. ! Great to see other people in the same boat, and some exceptional performances all round. I would strongly recommend this course for anyone thinking of performing solo, or would want those skills improved, or just wants to build confidence..
