Course Competition Winners…

Last year we ran a competition for our alumni who haven’t kept up their ukulele playing from the beginners course. Nora and Karyn won the competition and chose to come along to our Introduction to Music course. Here’s what they had to say about the course:

Nora:
“I’m really enjoying the new Introduction to Music using the ukulele class run by Lorraine, the class is perfectly paced for those who are learning to play an instrument for the first time as it really starts with the basics. The slower pace means that taking time to practise during the week is a lot less daunting and feels very achievable even with a busy schedule.
I really like the sociable nature of the class and Lorraine is great at creating a good sense of camaraderie within the group. I’m looking forward to joining some jams now that I’m feeling a bit more confident.”

Student contributions

We’re inviting our students to share their stories about their favourite ukuleles, strings, places to play, YouTube videos, and anything ukulele related with you.

This is where those posts will show up.

The bride to be’s secret ukulele lessons!

It’s not often I teach private students, but this lady is an exception. We’ve taken the photo of her learning to play using an electric ukulele and microphone from behind to protect her anonymity. After completing 2 ukulele courses with me, she confided that she was really only learning to play the ukulele so she can perform to her husband-to-be on her wedding day, and asked if I would teach her the song. Naturally, I couldn’t resist, so I’m really excited now the wedding date is getting closer and we’re nearly at performance standard on the song. More on this story to come!

Lorraine’s wonderful pupils from Michael Faraday School won the Southbank Centre’s Imagine Festival School of Rock!

They were up against some really stiff competition from some really accomplished rock bands, Ilderton Steel Pan Band:

Many of these children had been rehearsing for months. So we were surprised and proud that our children won, particularly as they had only started learning the songs 2 weeks before the competition!
